Susan Lim SCS Longest Serving Staffr

Treatment cost is one of the many pressing concerns after a cancer diagnosis. Singapore Cancer Society (SCS) provides a range of assistance schemes to alleviate the financial burden of treatment costs. These schemes provide cancer patients with avenues for assistance at every stage of treatment: from pre-treatment, when they are first diagnosed with cancer, to post-treatment and beyond. Susan Lim, Manager of SCS Welfare Services, has been with SCS for over 20 years providing assistance to those who need financial help. When asked what her motivation to serve in SCS is, she replied, “Many people I know suffered from cancer and cannot afford treatment. This has motivated me to help others in need. Coping with daily financial responsibilities may get overwhelming. Medical cost should not impede treatment and recovery.” She added that SCS has grown from a charity of less than 20 staff to a voluntary welfare organisation of over 100 staff. “Many of our services and programmes over the years have benefited so many beneficiaries. It give me great satisfaction to know what we do makes a difference in the life of someone.” She advises all staff of SCS to overcome all challenges to minimise cancer and maximise lives.
