“Don’t give up hope. Cancer is not a death sentence. I’ll always advise people around me to adopt a healthy lifestyle, exercise regularly, eat healthily, and most importantly to have a positive mindset and go for regular screening”, advocates Helen. Helen was diagnosed with 3 types of cancer. She was diagnosed with nose cancer, followed by breast cancer and then lung cancer.

Helen is now leading a normal life. With her experience in the fight against cancer, she wants to give back to the community by helping others who have gone through or are going through something similar.

In 2015 she joined Singapore Cancer Society’s (SCS) Reach to Recovery Cancer Support Group. As SCS believes that no one should fight cancer alone the structured support for cancer survivors is incorporated into every patient's cancer journey as a necessary follow-up to treatment.

Through this cancer support group, Helen has made many friends. She has been actively taking part in Zumba classes which takes place at SCS Multi Service Centre at Bishan Junction 8. Zumba feels really good for her, she likes it very much, she is happy about her Zumba performances. The first time, she did not dare to perform Zumba to people, but due to the encouragement of her members, she now enjoys it very much.
