Dr Ida has been very supportive in helping to empower women in Singapore to increase awareness and reduce the risk of gynaecological cancer. Gynaecological Cancers are amongst the top 10 most common cancers affecting Singaporean women today. She said, “The pivotal part about cancer prevention is firstly knowing about cancer. Then they can make a choice. Awareness is important for cancer screening and prevention. Especially for cancers that can be prevented like women’s gynaecological cancer.”

She also added that SCS has been playing an important role to educate public about cancer. SCS has been intensifying their cancer outreach and prevention efforts and as part of long-term plans to eradicate cervical cancer and reduce cancer incidence. As such, the HPV Education and Immunisation Programme for girls aged 9-13 years old was launched last year. Earlier this year SCS rolled out HPV Testing at no cost to all Singaporean/PR women aged 30-69. This new service will benefit women to now have a better chance of detecting these viruses earlier, enabling early intervention and surveillance.
