The Fund, set up on 1 April 2005, has but a very simple and humble objective, namely, to provide financial assistance to help needy cancer patients to subsidise part of their chemotherapy drugs and IMRT (Intensity Modulated Radiation Therapy) costs. This is so that no one is deprived of a chance to live due to high treatment cost. This altruistic goal was warmly received by the public when the Society held its first 2004 Cancer Charity TV Show to raise the seed money. It garnered $2 million through public donation.

While the Fund certainly cannot meet the needs of all cancer patients, it has been able to answer the calls of those who are very pressed and struggling to pay for their medical bills. This is where the Fund comes into play to help those who are in need.
Currently, the SCS Fund is assisting needy cancer patients from the National Cancer Centre Singapore, Singapore General Hospital, National University Hospital, KK Women’s & Children’s Hospital and Tan Tock Seng Hospital.
To-date, a total of $6 million has been disbursed to help over 1,000 cancer patients.
Since its inception and against the backdrop of today’s volatile social environment, the Fund has more than fulfilled its objectives. It has been bringing hope where there is despair, relief where there is anxiety and a semblance of normalcy where there is trauma in the lives of the cancer patients and their families.
