Reach to Recovery

Reach to Recovery (RTR) established since 1973 is a breast cancer support group under the umbrella of Singapore Cancer Society. This programme aims to help women cope with their life challenges brought about by a diagnosis of breast cancer. Most of the women involved in the programme have lived through breast cancer, giving their time to provide a listening ear and share their experience to help another woman in her journey to achieve full recovery: cosmetically, physically, emotionally, spiritually and psychologically.

Volunteers meet once a month and invite patients who had undergone breast surgery to attend the meeting. RTR works to provide the emotional pillar to the patients and their caregivers as well as to serve as a source of information on the disease and post-surgery rehabilitation.

The Programme consists of:

  • Hospital visitation by Breast Cancer survivors to newly diagnosed ladies after surgery to share personal experience
  • Manual kit on rehabilitative exercises, exercise equipment and prosthesis purchase information, as well as helpful hints on dressing, bra and breast forms
  • Demonstration of exercises by the survivors during the visit to help patients regain mobility of the arm and shoulder on the operated side
  • Assistance to patients in overcoming initial shock and trauma of mastectomy/lumpectomy
  • Allaying unfounded fears and rumours of breast cancer

Membership is voluntary and free. Join in the support or to find out more, call 6421 5828 or email to welfare@singaporecancersociety.org.sg
