How to do Breast Self-Examination (BSE)

1. Stand in front of a mirror and raise one arm above the head. Inspect the breast and nipple for any changes.
2. Lie down and systematically examine the breast with the tips of the fingers to feel for any hard lumps.
3. Squeeze the nipple to look for discharge and examine the armpit for any lymph gland swelling

Who should go for breast examination?
Based on our government's guidelines for breast screening:

40 years and below
  • Monthly Breast Self-Examination
  • Clinical Breast Examination yearly

40 to 49 years

  • Monthly Breast Self-Examination
  • Clinical Breast Examination yearly
  • Mammogram yearly

50 years and above

  • Monthly Breast Self-Examination
  • Clinical Breast Examination yearly
  • Mammogram every 2 years
