How can we reduce our risk of cancers?

A Diet for Healthy Living

A healthy diet can help to reduce your risk of certain cancers as well as other diseases such as heart attack, diabetes and stroke.

Eat less of these

  • Foods high in fat
  • Smoked and salted food

Eat more of these

  • Foods rich in fibre
  • Fresh fruits and vegetables

A Healthy Lifestyle

  • Stop smoking. Cigarettes not only lead to lung cancer but also increase your risk for cancers of the mouth, throat, oesophagus, stomach, pancreas, bladder, kidney and cervix
  • Avoid alcohol completely or drink only in moderation
  • Exercise regularly to maintain a healthy weight
  • Avoid casual sex. Be faithful to one partner who is faithful to you
  • Avoid excessive exposure to sunlight. Use a good sunblock or sunscreen lotion
