Although the cause of ovarian cancer is unknown, there are some factors which seem to put women at a higher risk:
- Women with few pregnancies or who have never been pregnant. On the contrary, oral contraceptives (also known as “birth control pills”) seem to provide some protection against ovarian cancer.
- Family history of the disease
- High fatty diet
- Early menarche and late menopause
Ovarian cancer is more commonly seen in Caucasians.
