Although the cause of ovarian cancer is unknown, there are some factors which seem to put women at a higher risk:

  1. Women with few pregnancies or who have never been pregnant. On the contrary, oral contraceptives (also known as “birth control pills”) seem to provide some protection against ovarian cancer.
  2. Family history of the disease
  3. High fatty diet
  4. Early menarche and late menopause

Ovarian cancer is more commonly seen in Caucasians.
