Q : I would like to enquire on eligibility for the application of the Singapore Cancer Society (SCS)’s financial assistance. What is the procedure to request for the assistance?
A : To qualify for SCS financial assistance, we would require a Doctor’s referral letter. With the letter, please approach the Hospital’s Medical Social Worker (MSW) for assistance. The application will be submitted for SCS for processing.
Q : One of my family member(s) is suffering from cancer and needs treatment. How can we request for support? What is the procedure to request for the fund to pay for the treatment?
A : To apply for the SCS Cancer Treatment Fund, you are required to approach the patient’s primary doctor for a referral letter. You will then need to approach SCS for assessment and assistance.
Q : Does the SCS support all cancer drugs for treatment?
A : At the moment we provide financial assistance for certain non-standard cancer treatment drugs.
Q : Does the SCS accept donation-in-kind such as milk feed, stoma wafers and bags?
A : The Society does accept donations in kind, provided the items are not expired. These items will be used to help financially disadvantaged families. The items can be delivered to:

Q : We are from Indonesia (example of a foreign country). My brother is undergoing chemotherapy at a private hospital here and we are experiencing financial difficulties continuing the full course of treatment. We will be grateful if the SCS is able to grant us any kind of financial assistance.
A : The SCS’s Cancer Treatment Fund is to provide financial assistance to help needy cancer patients, subsidising part of their chemotherapy drugs and IMRT and patients must be referred by the following participating restructured hospitals:
- National Cancer Centre Singapore
- The Cancer Institute
- National University of Singapore
- Singapore General Hospital
- Tan Tock Seng Hospital, and
- KK’s Women & Children Hospital
And one of the eligibility criteria is that the “Applicant must be a Singapore citizen or Permanent Resident” We would suggest that you approach your embassy for assistance. |
