What is the SCS Direct Debit Donor Programme (DDDP)?
DDDP is a donation programme designed for members of the public who are interested in supporting SCS in the fight against cancer by making a regular donation on a monthly, 6-monthly or annual basis. SCS is self-funded and needs constant donations to sustain our efforts in cancer prevention and control and in helping needy cancer patients and their families cope with the financial burden of cancer treatment.

How does DDDP work?
DDDP is promoted face-to-face and this personal approach allows members of the public to find out more about SCS’s programmes and services, our community outreach and the people we are helping. DDDP is promoted at various places including events and shopping malls throughout Singapore. DDDP must be compliant with licensing requirements and all venues would require the prior approval of the National Council of Social Service (NCSS). DDDP makes it easier for those who do not have the opportunity to contribute through other channels, such as visiting our office and website, to express their support.

Can I make a one-time donation?
As we need constant funding to sustain our programmes and services, we encourage donors to make recurring contributions of an amount and frequency which they are comfortable with. However, should the donor prefer to make a one-time donation, we would also be most grateful.
We welcome all donations and the Field Representatives are trained to accept both recurring and one-time donations. There is no minimum amount for one-time donations and donors can choose to contribute any amount.

How much do I need to donate?
Monthly donations start at S$38. At only S$1.25 per day, this amount will still go a long way towards helping a needy cancer patient or in saving a life through early detection of cancer.
6-monthly and annual donations start at $228 and $456 respectively, and deductions are made once every 6 months or annually. It works out to exactly the same amount as S$38 a month, except that deductions are less frequent. 6-monthly or annual donations help SCS reduce the administrative costs.

How can I make a donation to SCS via DDDP?
You can make a donation to SCS through your credit card.
(Note: SCS Field Representatives are not allowed to accept cash donations. We accept cheques ONLY when the donor prefers NOT to donate through credit card.)

Why does DDDP have monthly, 6-monthly and annual donation schemes?
We need sustainable funding to enable us to carry out the long-term work of cancer prevention and control, aimed at raising the awareness of cancer, encouraging regular screening and early detection; and reducing mortalities due to cancer.

Why doesn’t SCS use its own staff for DDDP?
It is not feasible and cost-effective for the Society to bear the considerable costs of setting up a team large enough to manage and carry out the DDDP. For prudent use of resources, we have chosen to partner APPCO, an established agency that specialises in face-to-face marketing. This partnership enables SCS to save costs and channel much more of your valuable donations directly to our programmes and services.

Why can’t SCS use volunteers for DDDP?
Face-to-face fundraising is a regular, professional job that requires long-term commitment, hard work and specific skills. All SCS Field Representatives undergo intensive training before they begin work. This is a full-time work and it will not be fair for us to impose on our volunteers, who have other commitments apart from the time that they have generously donated to SCS.

Does all the money go directly to SCS?
Yes, DDDP is a secure and convenient way for members of the public to donate to us as we only accept credit card transactions and all the monies are credited directly into SCS’s bank account. SCS pays APPCO a fee for the fundraising work done. Each year, we set aside a budget to pay for the costs of carrying out various fundraising activities including special events, direct mailers and DDDP. It is from this pre-allocated approved budget that this fee is paid. Our fundraising budget is well within the 30% of total funds raised as recommended by the National Council of Social Service.

How will the funds be used?
The funds raised will be used to provide financial assistance to needy cancer stricken families to subsidise the costs of chemotherapy treatment and supplement household living expenses. The funds will also be used for rehabilitation support for cancer patients, home medical care for terminally-ill cancer patients and for public education initiatives and cancer screening to encourage early detection of cancer to save lives and improve the chance of cure.

How do I know the authenticity of the Field Representative?
All our Field Representatives carry an ID badge and a copy of the CCA (Collectors Certificate of Authority), issued by NCSS, which details the name and NRIC of each individual Representative. You can also contact SCS directly and provide us with the full name or ID badge number of the Representative you wish to verify.

How do I cancel my donations?
While every dollar counts towards the fight against cancer, should you ever need to stop your donation, all you have to do is contact us through the contact details provided below. We will process your request immediately. However, please allow a maximum of 30 days for the termination of credit card arrangements to take effect.

How does SCS ensure the proper conduct of the DDDP?
Public feedback is monitored and periodic reviews are conducted to make sure that there is no misrepresentation and that the fundraising is carried out in a professional manner and within the regulatory guidelines.
The Field Representatives are closely supervised and their performance monitored to ensure that they:
- Do not engage in misleading or deceptive conduct in respect of the fundraising and answering queries about SCS;
- Do not contravene any applicable laws or regulations, including those relating to the fundraising, and conditions laid down by the NCSS licence;
- Do not commit any acts which may materially and adversely affect SCS’s reputation and interests
- Do not represent themselves as employees or volunteers of SCS
Alternatively, if you would like to donate directly to the Society, you may wish to download the GIRO form (monthly deduction) or visit www.sggives.org/cancersociety
